Sure Grip Fugitive

Sure Grip - Fugitive

We’ve never actually skated on these outlaws so we don’t want to write a full review of them because that would just be wrong but if you’ve got a solid opinion of the Sure Grip Fugitives and want to write a few paragraphs about them please drop us a line. Otherwise just leave a short review and rating of the them in the comments section below.

  1. I’ve got the red Fugitives, but they’re the only wheel I’ve ever skated on so I don’t know if I could be very objective in a review. One issue I had at the last practice, we were doing a fast (for me) pace line and sprinting around the track, and I was having some trouble with my wheels slipping out from under me as I was crossing-over through the turns (we skate on polished concrete). I don’t know whether the wheels or the legs are to blame for that one though.

I think that I’ll show up early to my next practice and spend some time adjusting my trucks to give me a bit more cornering ability around the turns. Thanks for the video on that, by the way.

I’m not a huge fan of fugis. Some people I know swear by them, and they are a great starting price for newer skaters. I started off on these, and then upgraded to atom g-rods and haven’t looked back since. I had the red and orange, orange were my pushers and the red I think were 91 or so…anyways I skated on finished concrete and still slipped everywhere. They felt heavy and bulky, especially now compared to my atom wheels! I’ve heard good reviews of the newer “fugitive mid” model, which are a narrow width, but I have yet to try them out.

I love my grey fugitives (88a). The floor we skate on is slick-as-snotcrete. I use them as my pusher wheels along with 4 Devil Rays. They give me just the grip I need to not slide on the turns and plow stop quickly, without slowing me down too much.

I also skate on Mojos occasionally(88a), but I think I like the Fug/DR combo a lot better for my floor and skating style. The mojos are heavier even though they’re slimmer, and they wore down very quickly. I had to get them regrooved to keep them alive for another 8 months. I think I might try a yellow/purple Fugi MID combo next. I actually feel more stable on wider wheels, but I’d like to improve my footwork.

These were my starter wheels and now i use them as pushers along with 4 radar demon wheels. I have the pink wheels which are 92a i think, good grip but doesn’t glue your skate to the track. I skate on hardwood and they were very good for the price.

I skate on the pink 92As, but can’t be completely objective as they’re the only wheels I’ve had as yet. They worked well for me as I figured out how to skate, but now that I’m going faster through things I’m finding them to be a bit too slippy for my finished concrete skating rink. In general though they’re good wheels, I just need a bit more grip going through fast turns.

I loved my fugis when I first started to get good, but I found that as soon as I tried someone’s narrower wheels it felt like I was skating on barrels. They’re a good go-to wheel for any surface for me, but I would never use them for jamming.

I love these wheels, but these are the only ones that I have used. I am new to derby and have skated since I was three years old, but never had my own skates :( These a TOTALLY different kind of wheel than rentals. They are a heaven sent wheel compared to rental skates!
