Atom Wheels are dropping some new wheels at RollerCon 2011 as well. It seems like 59mm is the new black as they launch a 59mm version of their popular Poisons and are calling them cleverly Venom. I’ve never really been a fan of the Poison line of wheels from Atom for roller derby. They are great if you skate on a horrible surface and some leagues do on a regular basis but for most derby girls these wheels are way to heavy, way to squishy, and way to neon green. We can only wait and see what shaving 3mm off the top does for these wheels.

Love these wheels. I used to have a half and half Poison/LowBoy combination, but I changed to Poison/Jukes later in the year in order to use slimmer wheels. Since the Poisons and Jukes are totally different diameters, I decided to try the venoms since they were said to match the Jukes 59mm. They are almost exactly like the Poisons in terms of grip.
PERFECTION. On slippery tracks it’s the best. I have just enough grip on the turns and when jumping thanks to the venoms and still have my speed and agility with the Jukes.
If you like smaller wheels, this is a good way to go as long as you pair them with a harder wheel. Remember, smaller wheels will really help you move and stop.
My only request is an aluminum hub.
